- I must admit that I didn't really study the whole situation of our beloved club when I jotted down my thoughts yesterday, especially when I was caught with a hefty long day working all around the Karachi city and then watching the `deadly' equaliser by that Lyon players. But since then, I had the opportunity to really sit in front of my laptop and read thoroughly the whole debacle and our current state of infamy.
- To my relieve (and I hope you guys share it with me!), Liverpool was not really out and out of the race - as yet. There are still 2 games to go, and mathematically, we do still have that chance, albeit how slim it could be, since we have to pray and rely on the defeat of Fiorentina and hoping the likes of Torres, Benayoun and... errr.. Babel... Kuyt ... hmmm... to score more than 3 goals to grab that 2nd spot for the next round. There is still hopes. And this is where I like it most. I love to be the underdog. Let people assumed what ever they want, then we rise to the occasion and executed the coup de grace... so I hope.
- I see that some of you don't really like my statement pertaining to the `new Liverpool fans'. Let me debate here a bit more. In any event, like it or not, while having a club to support and hold on to the rest of your life, we can't deny the necessity of having the new generations of fans. This is especially important in terms of commercialism in the long run. There won't be any sponsors if Liverpool kept on losing and the number of fans deteriorated. The impact on the season fans like many of us would be massive when that fact is not ratified. I really don't want it to reoccur when I have to pray every week for the satellite tv to air the live matches of Liverpool or searching endlessly all around the city simply just to look for the club's merchandise. What we have now is luxury. Almost every shopping malls have the dedicated stores that sold LFC's merchandise. Why? Because there are markets for it. What's the point of having a product but no one is buying. This could happened if Liverpool lost its attraction, especially now when it seems that almost any team can beat us. Birmingham City could be dreaming the same dream. To beat the hell out of the broken Liverpool. Lets hope the rot will stop with the Birmingham match. Lets hope.

THERE'S STILL A CHANCE, SLIM IT MAY SEEMS
Me and the whole `entourage' while I was in Karachi. Not only these Rangers responsible for my safety but also ensure the road was `smooth' for the journey.

I understand your concern about the new generation of fans. My three sons aged 13 to 8 are all Liverpool's fans. They too endured the same predicament like us being tortured by their Chelseas, MUs and Arsenals friends. I told them stories like I have been Liverpool since I was a little boy just like them and Liverpool has been the greatest club for ages and we will fight on. But if we keep losing and stay mid-table or bottom(although I believe this will never happen), they too might lose interest unlike my time in the 70's and 80's where Liverpool were winning just like the Scums right now...you got a point there bro..
Sdr Zeedean,
My own `Steven Gerrard' is still 10months old. But when me and my wife trying to get him to sleep, we played the Gerry & The Pacemaker song. It works everytime! Especially when the father also join in in the chorus...
We have to start them young!
I really feel for the 'supporters' who are in the Anti-Rafa Brigade. Yeah, really, if you believe cows can fly. The go on and on about wanting Rafa to be sacked while ignoring glaring FACTS. And what happens to them after each game?
When we lose, these supporters will be happy because they feel that their argument is justified, BUT they will be unhappy because we have lost. And when we win, they will be happy because we won BUT will be unhappy because their argument to 'sack' Rafa would be refuted. Either way, they always remain unhappy and are stuck in the no-win situation. Hence my pity for them.
Maybe they should take up this advice: bet some money on the opposing team to win. Even when LFC loses, they will be happy because they would have won some money afterwards.
YNWA
Khan, have pity for yourself first before you pity others. Don't try to insuniate anything about us, the anti-Rafa brigade.
We are ardent fans of LFC even though we are very much anti-Rafa. Our love for LFC is undivided but will not hide the fact that Rafa has had his time at Liverpool. Time to have a new beginning. We don't want our beloved LFC to rot further.
Your suggestion about us betting against LFC smacks of your inability to see things in the proper perspective.
YNWA.
The fact that you think you are an 'ardent' fan is why I said I pitied your cause, because it must be difficult going against the majority. And also since money does make most people happy.
I dunno why I bother but here it is again: Show me the 'proper perspective' then. And please base it on Facts.
So far, I have not been convinced at all by any of the anti-Rafa rants. All I hear is 'we lost a game, rafa must go', 'we will not win the PL this season, so rafa must go', and other 'proper perspectives' as you put it, and when asked to clarify and argue, these so-called fans go into hiding, until the next game we lose (they went into hiding when we beat the Mancs for example).
Go on, blame everything on Rafa then, from the injuries to the players, the beachball, the Refs, the lack of funds, having two jokers for owners who were actually caught lying, the fixtures, to global warming if you must.
YNWA indeed!
For example like this:
http://tomkinstimes.com/2009/11/what’s-gone-wrong-this-season/
I dont want to get into an argument with someone who is so "thick" as you are. But the fact that you only choose to highlight articles which are favourable to rafa smacks of your true nature, i.e. Rafa is innocent, all others are to blame".
True, we kept quiet when Liverpool beat MU..a win is a win, but are you blind in not being able to see the win in a bigger context?
ONE WIN DOES NOT MAKE A SUMMER!!!! There's no point to bragging about beating MU when in the next few games we lost tamely to poor teams. The problem with Rafa is he's too arrogant. Look at his team formation and his buys and his strategy. Anyone with half a brain can see that Rafa is problem here. Not the owners. True the owners are liars and deserve to be kicked out, but on pitch, Rafa is fully responsibel. But then whenever things go wrong, Rafa will blame it on the senior players, the injuries, the lack of fund etc2.
Rafa would not have extended his contract if he would not trust the owners. The fact that he did suggest that he has confidence in them! The new contract given to him gave him more powers than the previous contract. Can't you see that? Rafa is actually playing a game with people like you, people who are gullible.
No wonder our beloved Liverpool has not won the premiership for 20 years. Why? Because we Liverpool fans are slow to react. We want to retain the status quo, we are not prepared to take risks and finally we also lose the ability to know when a change is needed . In other words, we want to retain mediocrity.
Go ahead if you want to keep your faith in Senor Benitez.
We'll keep to our firm believe that Rafa Benitez has been given more than sufficient time to turn Liverpool's fortune but he has failed in his mission.
A win against the Mancs is not JUST a win, and knowing that it is just a win for you tells a lot to me, a thick person as you put. So much for not wanting to argue.
So you want me to highlight the articles which lie-a-lot that reaches out to gullible fans like you? What's the point? I am sure you have read all of them.
I quote: "Anyone with half a brain can see that Rafa is problem here. Not the owners." By your reckoning almost all fans of LFC are half-brained people. Nice argument there. So when are you going to organise an anti-Rafa demonstration at Anfield? If you do not see what I mean with this, I really really feel sorry for you.
Please do not speak of the contract as if you have seen it or Rafa's confidence and then say "Rafa would not have extended his contract if he would not trust the owners". So you believe that the two americans would not have taken Rafa for a ride prior to the signing and lied afterwards?
"Liverpool fans are slow to react" and your knee-jerk approach will solve all our problems, yeah right. If all the fans from those days were to listen to you, Shankly would have been sacked and you would not have become an LFC supporter.
And I have yet to see your solution to get us out of this slump, which I don't think you have one. At least I know Rafa has.
you guys know that I am in Pakistan at the moment. A place where people thought a lot of bombing is happening every day. But there is some sort of a sinister war happening in this blog. What ever you do, please retain your RUKUN NEGARA principle. Shukria jeeee...!!!
yes except steven gerrard has been diagnosed with cancer
IF YOU WANT FACTS, HERE ARE SOME OF THE FACTS. THERE ARE MANY OTHER FACTS WHICH YOU CONVENIENTLY CHOOSE TO IGNORE.
FACT..RAFA INHERITED A TOP 4 SIDE. IT HAD BEEN TOP 4 FOR 8 OF THE PREVIOUS 10 SEASONS BEFORE RAFA BECAME THE MANAGER IN 2004/05.
RAFA HAS HAD ONE GOOD SEASON IN THE LEAGUE.... JUST AS EVANS AND HOULLIER DID... BOTH FINISHING 2ND ONCE...AND WITHIN A 5-7 POINTS OF THE TITLE.
SO WHERE IS THE IMPROVEMENT? THIS WILL PUT TO BED THE NOTION THAT RAFA IS THE GENIUS OR A MASTER TACTICIAN.
TRUE HE WON THE HOLY GRAIL, THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, IN HIS FIRST SEASON BUT DOES NOT GIVE HIM THE RIGHT TO LIVE ON PAST GLORY. FIRST, IT WAS WON WITH THE HOULIER TEAM. LIVERPOOL WERE TOTALLY OUTCLASSED BUT FOR A CRAZY SIX MINUTE SPELL. THE COMEBACK HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH TACTICAL GENIUS. DIVINE INTERVENTION AND LUCK SEEMS MORE PLAUSIBLE.
THE BREAD AND BUTTER THOUGH IS THE PREMIERSHIP. RAFA HAS MANAGED TO TURN LIVERPOOL INTO A "JEKYLL AND HYDE" TEAM. A VERY INCONSISTENT TEAM. GOOD ON ONE DAY BUT POOR ON ANOTHER DAY. IS THIS THE HALLMARK OF A WOULD BE CHAMPION? CERTAINLY NOT.
HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO HARP ON THE LACK OF FUND??? UNTIL THE END OF TIME???
MY PARTING WORDS, STOP BEING DELUSIONAL. TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND SEE THINGS IN THE PROPER CONTEXT.
Take a deep breath.. no need to shout.
Which year did Evans achieve second place? Did I miss that one or is it one of the LIES spewed around? Houllier's 2nd place in 2000/01 was our best since 1991. But then again his 03/04 4th place 'achievement' was 30 points off champion Arsenal. He also 'achieved' the longest streak of not winning a game in our history. Now compare them both, who also inherited the former manager's team ie Evans from Souness, etc, to Rafa's achievement so far. Which manager had showed the most promising progress and improvement? And these facts do not put to bed anything, whether from your delusional side or not.
If you think the CL was a fluke, then you must also believe that the 2nd placing last season to be a fluke too. We were two goals short, yes TWO, to winning it. That's how close we were last season.
If Rafa did not have to sell to buy and improve this season, LFC would not have been in this slump now. Yes, WE WILL HARP ON THE LACK OF FUND UNTIL THE END OF TIME!!! if it takes that long. And if you are delusional into thinking funds has got nothing to do with success, then take a deep breath and see things in the proper context.
And that's my parting not words to you.
I might have to alert the LSCM about the debate here in my blog. Keep it going as long as you guys don't tear yourself apart...
a draw 2-2...blame it on luck again?? injuries? missing key players??
Oh, well, Benitez, in his typical self, will offer a range of excuses such as Liverpool had good possession, good control, good passing game etc etc..
But the fact remains that Liverpool has dropped another 2 points against a poor team and is now fighting for survival to be in the top 4.
Dropping points in winningable matches is a deadly sin, it is acceptable if it happens occassionally but this is becoming a theme this season.
We should pity players like Gerrard and Torres and a few others who have to content with Benitez and his choice of mediocre players in the line up.
"We should have won", so claims Benitez. We should have beaten Lyon home and away, we shoud have beaten so many other teams. But then other teams may also want to use the same reasoning when they do not win matches.
Winning matches isn't just about having more possession, creating more chance. It is about scoring more than the opposition, which conveniently Benitez seem to ignore.
