Inter Milan v Liverpool: KEY BATTLES

Last updated at 16:32pm on 10th March 2008

Italian champions Inter look to overturn Liverpool's 2-0 first-leg advantage when they meet in the Champions League last 16 at the San Siro on Tuesday night.
Here, Sportsmail looks at some of the confrontations which could decide the outcome.

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC v JAMIE CARRAGHER
Reputedly the world's highest-paid footballer, Ibrahimovic is equally capable of flummoxing opponents with his outlandish skills and frustrating Inter's fans with his brittle mindset. The first leg at Anfield was a case in point as he went missing in action, but 20 goals in 28 appearances this season show the 26-year-old is a world-class performer. On his day, he is good enough to tear any defence to shreds.
One man who is unlikely to be daunted by the Swede is Carragher, who under manager Rafael Benitez has established himself as one one of the continent's best centre-halves. Strong, fearless and a great organiser of the back four, the only area in which he comes up short is pace. His reading of the game is such, however, that it is a flaw which is rarely exploited.

DEJAN STANKOVIC v STEVEN GERRARD
Former Red Star Belgrade and Lazio midfielder Stankovic is a key man in the Inter engine room, able to shield the defence or link the play further up the field. Technically adept, at his best his snappy passes and clever movement set the tone for the Italians, although he is hardly prolific in front of goal with just a single strike to his name this season.
The same could not be said of Liverpool skipper Gerrard who already has 19 goals this term. With Javier Mascherano and Lucas likely to stay deep, the England midfielder will be asked to drive the team forward and support one or more strikers. Gerrard's repertoire of passing, pace, movement and deadly long-range shooting mean it is a role which suits him well.

NICOLAS BURDISSO v FERNANDO TORRES
With Marco Materazzi suspended after his first-leg sending off and Ivan Cordoba injured, Argentinian Burdisso is set to fill in at centre-back. The strong utility defender has rarely been considered more than a squad player since joining from Boca Juniors in 2004 and Liverpool are sure to target him.
On current form there are few players more suited to exploiting a weak link than Torres. A haul of 13 goals from his last 12 games speaks for itself and the Spaniard has been the most impressive new import in the Barclays Premier League this season. Good in the air, deceptively strong, fast and a deadly finisher - he appears to have been a snip at £21million.
